Auntie Boo’s Basement
Open Space for Arts & Community, Vashon Island
February 26 - March 7, 2027
The surviving employees of HKPG-TV invite you downstairs for a very special live presentation of Auntie Boo’s Basement, the mysterious midnight movie show that vanished from the airwaves in 1983.
We’ve kept her alive for all these years. Now, at last, a captive audience...
DO NOT BE AFRAID OF AUNTIE BOO
Celebrate cheerful, charming Auntie Boo, friend to all, with her peculiar taste for the fear that fruits from a well-told terror tale.
THE BASEMENT IS NOT SCARY
Join her devoted television family as we perform half-remembered fright films, distressing sketches, and ecstatic commercial breaks in her honor...and, if you’re very, very good, we might let you have a tiny taste of Auntie’s moist and tender morsels.

The performance organism known as HKPG performs visionary meltdowns of the American unconscious, full of pop dreams, lowbrow nightmares, awkward musical interludes, and folksy perversity.
Matthew Fontaine and Tamara Paris have been creating performance-based art together since the early 2000s, presenting their work in galleries, performance spaces and in the community.
Together and with a changing constellation of collaborators, they manifest a slippery, gooey, recursive praxis in which time-based art, narrative, theatre, entertainment, and hokum steal each other's identities. They explore themes such as pop culture as a proxy for violence, the liberatory power of boredom, and the revolutionary potential of stupid comedy.
“Matthew and Tamara are some of the most risk-taking theater artists in this community. They create thoughtful and surreal pieces about pop culture but work outside-the-box to present them in a distinctive (although sometimes nightmarish) context.”
— Lane Czaplinski, On the Boards
