What We Talk About When We Talk About Jamie
In order to commemorate our long friendship with performance artist Jamie McMurry, we created this piece about life’s inevitable disappearance.
Dressed in clothing that reminded us of Jamie, we traced each other’s reflections in a mirror and drew a picture of Jamie between us.
The goal of the performance that followed was to drink a fifth of whisky, smoke a pack of cigarettes each, and eat one hundred white powdered donut holes without breaking eye contact.
Each time we broke eye contact, the culprit would rise and erase part of the drawing of Jamie.
The performance became a Dionysian celebration of friendship that ended with the erasure of all three images.
