King Baby

VAIN Gallery, Seattle, 2002
Three hours

Matthew sits in front of a television wearing a paper crown and holding a stuffed toy.

An improvised exploration of the regent-as-infant, his sexuality constrained by the needs of the state, required to breed but kept perpetually immature. Art is a bohemian whore generating texts that are consumed by the King; she then smashes a hundred meringues into dust, turning the royal food into rubble.

The first of our “” performances where a story manifests a series of actions rather than actions telling a story.
